As winter drew towards us, I gained the advantage of watching the Ettin at a closer distance. Having experienced the harsh climate of this region for years, they kept closer to their colony and each other. I marveled at what I could now see.

These current Ettin were not the same creatures from the dark times. Whereas they once appeared to be one beast with two heads, they now seemed to be the union of two separate beasts. One half was covered in gray skin with a head like some mythological horror. The other was scaled like a lizard, its head topped with horns and its mouth filled with fangs.

They may have different personalities, which explains peculiarities I noted during the aforementioned battle. One half favored offensive techniques, while the other favored those that were defensive. They used this duality to their advantage, at once using the momentum of a spear-thrust to push a shield stance forward. Interestingly enough, I recognized some techniques the Legion itself had utilized in the days before the Ettin.

The question now becomes whether their evolution has been a rapid process or whether the transformation is merely the result of the death of Korax. If they had evolved as such it is possible that one day their two halves will split into two unique species. While a fascinating prospect, I am deeply concerned about the threat that they can – as minions of Korax – still pose to the rest of the still-waking world.

Since that time, we have been able to identify further tribes. They tend to gravitate towards areas of warmth, although there is one distinct tribe deep in the north where the snow is present yearlong.
